If you’re tech savvy, you love downloading and testing new tools. Vendors are more than happy to provide you limited access to their tools at no fee with the hope you’ll eventually want to pay for the enhanced version.
But beware, free tools are not always worth it. More and more, we are seeing popular freeware that has been compromised by criminals to secretly download malware into unsuspecting organizations. This potential risk is even more insidious if the person testing the software is an administrator with elevated access within the organization. The result is malicious access and most often a ransomware attack. In response, BW Cyber strongly recommends that your organization has a strict policy that no freeware program downloads are allowed on company equipment.
None.
