This is, in essence, a modern-day ransomware franchise open to anyone who wants to use the DarkSide service to attack and extort businesses world-wide. If paid the crypto ransom, the Darkside operators guarantee to assist targeted users to return to normal during the decryption process. However, they also warn that if the crypto ransom is not paid, they will leave the system locked and publish all stolen data for a period of 6 months.
It is clear that the cyber criminals providing global, anonymous franchise access to their Darkside ransomware mean business. And they are targeting your organization. On August 8, 2020, the operators of the Darkside ransomware announced their malware in a press release on the dark web. They relayed that they had created this extortion kit for their unique cybercriminal needs and had made millions of dollars by partnering anonymously with other well-known ransomware groups.
