When BW Cyber Founder Michael Brice sat down to write his first blog post of the new year, he wanted to come up with some fresh perspectives for a ‘year in review’ type piece.  And candidly, he wanted it to be positive.

However, after reviewing our Security Incident Response data for the past year, and staring at the screen for half an hour desperately wanting to highlight how better businesses have become at protecting themselves, he realized that was an impossible task.

In December, a potential data breach of AlphaSense, a technology firm with clients in the asset and wealth management industries, was declared on a hacking forum, with the hacker demanding 10 Bitcoins to delete all of the data.

A notorious hacker said back in the fall that he (and others) breached Cisco, obtaining confidential documents, credentials and more of Cisco customers.

Cisco denied this, saying that the data came from a public development environment that certain data had been accidentally uploaded to.
